October Consultation: Progress of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan and National Service Scheme
In order to understand the progress of the project “Strengthening of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) and National Service Scheme (NSS)’’, a three-day Consultation and Review meeting on sharing good practices was held in New Delhi from 25- 27 October 2016. During this consultation, 29 UNV District Youth Coordinators (DYCs) and the national project team presented and shared their achievements from 2016. They also discussed what shape the project could take in future, and their plans to achieve to goals. The consultation was also an opportunity to share and highlight good practices on youth development and volunteering initiated under the project at national and district levels.
The consultation was addresed by Dr. A.K. Dubey, Hon’ble Secretary Youth Affairs, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MoYAS), Government of India (GOI), Mr. Lalit Gupta, Hon’ble Joint Secretary Youth Affairs, MoYAS, GOI / National Project Director, ‘Strengthening NYKS and NSS’ and Ms. Marina Walter, Deputy Country Director, UNDP. The consultation also included presence of Major General Dilawar Singh, Director General, NYKS and Mr. Veerendra Mishra, Executive Director, NYKS along with the project and UNV India teams. All stakeholders came together to identify the factors that support the implementation of good practices, as well as challenges that had to be overcome during the process, and what did and did not work.
The three-day deliberations also touched on a roadmap to inspire UNV DYCs to volunteer and to act as ambassadors of volunteerism in order to engage more people in the task of nation-building. The team had a chance to build and deepen their own skillset, learn from each other, and interact with tofficials from NYKS, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, and UN Volunteers. They took what they learned from these three days to reapply some aspects within their respective districts and to continue to promote volunteerism among youth in India.
