Strengthening National Capacities in Tribal Areas
What the Project is About
In partnership with the Ministry of Tribal Areas, Government of India, the project aims to ensure that excluded groups benefit from the inclusive agenda of the Government of India through strengthening capacities of communities to demand and access entitlements and ensuring decentralized institutions deliver timely and stigma-free services.
Achievements
- Issued guidelines on conversion of forest villages into revenue villages for states
- Provided technical support at the national level, for monitoring individual and community rights. Support was provided to experts on developing monitoring formats, analyzing information provided by the states on the implementation of the Forest Rights Act; and training functionaries
- Provided legal counsel and advice to the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, aimed at upholding the principles of the Forest Rights Act and preventing wrongful dispossession
- Developed umbrella schemes for education of tribal children and scholarships developed
- Promoted knowledge sharing on international good practices of tribal rights and entitlements through supporting high-level delegation of policymakers from India visited Vietnam
- Organized three regional consultations to build the capacity of state officials on critical issues impeding the Act’s implementation
