Monster.com Acknowledged by Business Call to Action to Promote Job Opportunities in Rural India
New Delhi, India, 6 May 2010 - UNDP-supported Business Call to Action initiative that encourages companies to fight poverty while expanding business opportunities in developing countries, acknowledges Monster.com for its commitment to expand access to job opportunities for rural youth in India.
The Business Call to Action (BCtA) and Monster.com, the leading global online recruitment resource and flagship brand of Monster Worldwide (NYSE: MWW) today announced that Monster.com has been acknowledged by the BCtA for its commitment to expand access to job opportunities for rural youth in India. The pledge to the BCtA will promote access to Rozgarduniya.com, an Internet job portal, in 40,000 villages across nine states in India.
Monster.com’s commitment to the BCtA (http://www.bcta-initiative.org) is expected to promote inclusive growth and sustainable development as well as contribute to the Millennium Development Goals, eight internationally-agreed goals which seek to alleviate poverty. Rozgarduniya.com, which means “the world of employment opportunities” in Hindi, is a joint initiative between Monster.com, and ITC Choupal, which are Internet-enabled kiosks set up by ITC Limited in villages throughout India. The platform enables job seekers to access and apply for jobs through ITC Choupals. The bilingual site provides a credible recruitment tool for companies looking to hire local talent. For qualified candidates, the portal provides access to job information from companies expanding their reach into rural areas.
“We are elated that the Business Call to Action has appreciated and acknowledged our efforts for creating avenues of employment and growth in 40,000 villages across India,” said Sanjay Modi, Managing Director for Monster.com in India, Middle East and South-East Asia. “Our initiative is in line with the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals, supports the government’s vision of inclusive growth in India, and is absolutely consistent with our own values at Monster. The portal has been designed after intensive research with the youth in rural India to understand their profiles and internet usage behavior. We are committed to empowering rural youth in India by connecting them to the economic mainstream with the help of Information Technology.” “The Business Call to Action is pleased to welcome Monster.com as its newest member working to leverage core business expertise to support inclusive development and alleviate poverty among India’s rural population,” said Natalie Africa, Programme Manager of the BCtA. “Innovative business models such as this marry business innovation with sustainable development outcomes to promote prosperity across all of India.”
Launched in August 2009, Rozgarduniya.com is currently accessible in both Hindi and English in more than 3,000 villages. During the pilot phase, more than 325 jobs were posted and 144 job seekers were offered employment.
