Madhya Pradesh to Set Up Over 600 Model Gram Panchayats: Model Gram Panchayats Based on Criteria Developed by UNDP Project
In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the state government of Madhya Pradesh has decided to set up 600 model gram panchayats in the state by the end of the year. The panchayats will be based on 12 parameters developed as part of a joint UNDP-Government of India partnership on capacity development for local governance.

A high-level Commission, supported by UNDP on behalf of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, finds that punitive laws and human rights abuses are costing lives, wasting money and stifling the global AIDS response. In its report titled ‘HIV and the Law: Risks, Rights and Health,’ the Commission calls for laws that protect human rights to save lives, save money and end the epidemic.
