The Planning Commission and UNDP have launched a unique knowledge portal http://www.nrcddp.org/ which brings together all the necessary guidelines and best practice processes required for undertaking participatory decentralized planning at district, block and village levels. The portal is run by the National Resource Cell for Decentralized District Planning (NRCDPP), a joint initiative by the Planning Commission and UNDP as part of the Government of India-UNDP on Convergence which promotes decentralized and convergent planning and development in the country.

A new UNDP report says that the next generation of biodiversity governance models across the world can emerge from the knowledge of existing approaches in India. It also calls for adopting a landscape approach to biodiversity governance, which will allow extensive ecosystems, and not just the smaller protected parts of it, to thrive.

UNDP has unveiled a new global strategy to protect biodiversity that calls for a significant scaling up of investments in 100 countries by 2020. As part of the strategy, UNDP will work with national governments to protect biodiversity and manage ecosystems across 1.4 billion hectares of land and bodies of water.

Ministry of Rural Development and UNDP Sign Letter of Collaboration In Support Of Rural Employment and Livelihood Programmes
Under this agreement UNDP and the Ministry of Rural Development of Rural Development will collaborate to accelerate development efforts in 10 left-wing extremism affected districts with large tribal populations. The two entities will also intensify their on-going engagement on India’s flagship rural employment guarantee prrogramme that has provided jobs to over 54 million people. UNDP has committed $10 million over a five year period for the project with a commitment of $20 million from the Ministry.

Election Commission of India and United Nations Development Programme Sign MoU to Support Electoral and Democratic Practices
The Election Commission of India and UNDP have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation in election management, particularly for supporting elections and democratic process in other countries. The MoU was signed by Lise Grande, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative and Akshay Rout, Director General, Election Commission in the presence of V.S. Sampath, Chief Election Commissioner and Rebeca Grynspan, UN Under Secretary General and UNDP Associate Administrator.

UNDP will continue to support efforts by nations and communities to mainstream biodiversity conservation into the development agenda through discussions at the eleventh Conference of Parties (CoP 11) in Hyderabad.
