  • National Voter’s Fest: Glimpses from India’s General Elections 2014Jan 20, 2015An exhibition of over 150 photos celebrating India’s vibrant democracy and historic moments from the country's national elections in 2014 was inaugurated by H S Brahma, Chief Election Commissioner, Election Commission of India and Jaco Cilliers, Resident Representative a.i. and Country Director, UNDP. Organized by the Election Commission of India, with UNDP support, the National Voters’ Festival aims to enhance electoral participation ahead of elections to Delhi's state assembly scheduled for February 2015.

  • United Nations Public Lecture by Dr. Karan Singh, Member of ParliamentSep 26, 2014The fourth UN Public Lecture will be delivered by Dr. Karan Singh on Education in the 21st Century. Dr. Karan Singh is a member of India’s Upper House of Parliament, the Rajya Sabha. He was born heir apparent to the then ruler of the state of Jammu and Kashmir and served successively as regent, Sardar-i-Riyasat and governor of the state. A recipient of the Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian award in India, Dr Singh has held the tourism and civil aviation, health and family planning and the education and culture portfolios in the Indian government and also served briefly as Ambassador to the United States. Dr Singh has been Chancellor of Benaras Hindu University, Jammu and Kashmir University, and Jawaharlal Nehru University. He has also served as Chairman of the Indian Board of Wildlife and is associated with several cultural and academic institutions.

  • IC4HD 2014 Human Development Fellowship for Young ProfessionalsAug 8, 2014The International Centre for Human Development (IC4HD) has awarded the 2014 Human Development Fellowship for Young Professionals to four young professionals of the Global South. The fellowship is offered to encourage research from a human development perspective and exchange of experiences among professionals from the Global South. The theme of the 2014 Human Development Fellowship for Young Professionals is social security.

  • UN MDG Report 2014: Poverty, Malnutrition and Sanitation Remain Concerns for IndiaJul 16, 2014The new Millennium Development Goals Report 2014 examines the latest progress made towards achieving the MDGs. It shows that millions of people’s lives have improved due to concerted global, regional, national and local efforts to achieve the MDGs, which serve as the foundation for the next global development agenda. The Report was released in India by Najma Heptulla, the Union Minister for Minority Affairs. Jayati Ghosh, Professor, JNU and Lise Grande, UN Resident Coordinator also spoke on the occasion.

  • Contributing to Energy Saving: Recognition to UNDPJun 28, 2014S.N. Srinivas, Programmme Officer with UNDP India has been awarded the Hitech’s 2014 India’s Leading Energy Saving Expert Award for his contribution to energy saving in the steel sector. The Award was presented by HITEC India, a non-profit organization that aims to promote IT solutions, next generation networks and enabled services to India. The Awards recognize experts across industrial sectors that have made a significant contribution to using technologies to address the complex problems facing industry and Government in India.
