The 15th edition of the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit, one of the foremost calendar events on climate change in the world, got underway in Delhi today. The two-day Summit supported by UNDP focused on sustainable development amidst the complex challenges of climate change.

R K Laxman, the genius chronicler of India's political and social life and creator of the Common Man, had exclusively sketched cartoons for UNDP’s Human Development Calendar in 2007. Laxman, recipient of numerous awards, among them the Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan and Magsaysay Award, passed away on the evening of 26 January 2015. He was 93.

A Round Table on Addressing Economic Inequality in India is being organised by the International Centre for Human Development (IC4HD) and National Institute of Advanced Studies on 8-9 January, 2015 at Bengaluru. At the Round Table, practitioners and academicians will (i) discuss the causes of the rising economic inequality in India, and (ii) explore opportunities for redressing these inequalities.

Partnering Community-Led Organizations of the Socially Excluded: Towards Making Growth Just and Inclusive
Centre for Social Equity and Inclusion, with UNDP support, organized a consultation on ‘Partnering Community-Led Organizations of the Socially Excluded: Towards Making Growth Just and Inclusive’ to understand the constraints experienced by Dalit, Tribal and Muslim communities in participating and accessing development; analyzing current engagement of community led organizations from Dalit, Tribal and Muslim communities in promoting development work among these communities; and building strategies to strengthen these CLOs to enable their communities to access entitlements and schemes to overcome development inequalities.

The National Toll Free AIDS Helpline, Digital Resource Centre and Supply Chain Management System was launched at the event.
