    UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon Announces Official Visit to India

    UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will visit India from 25 April 2012. During his three-day visit, the Secretary-General will meet with country’s senior political leadership to discuss current regional and international issues, and with business leaders committed to promoting the health of women and children. The Secretary-General will also visit health facilities to witness progress being made by communities in promoting health of women and children.

    PAHELI Dissemination Workshop

    Date: 20 April 2012 | Venue: Madhya Pradesh | A workshop to disseminate findings and results of PAHELI (Peoples Assessment of Health, Education and Livelihood) was held in Rajgarh district of Madhya Pradesh on 20 April 2012. PAHELI is a community monitoring tool, rolled out as part of the Government of India-United Nations Joint Programme on Convergence, in eight districts of seven UNDAF states to monitor sectoral schemes and local progress towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals.

    Cartoonists from Asia-Pacific Win Awards on Earth Day from the UN and Government of France

    Bangkok - Asia-Pacific cartoons depicting the effects of climate change on children, Chinese cities, the Pacific Islands and mangrove forests won a regional contest sponsored by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of France. Cartoonists from Bangladesh, China, India, Lao PDR, Palau, Papua New Guinea, and the Philippines have been recognized on this year’s Earth Day for their original artwork depicting climate change and human development in Asia-Pacific countries.

    Equator Prize Winners Announced, Awards will be Presented During Rio+20

    New York - The Equator Initiative announced yesterday the names of twenty-five local community groups to receive the Equator Prize 2012 in recognition of their outstanding contributions to sustainable development. Among the winners that were selected from 812 nominations submitted by communities in 113 countries across the developing world, was India’s Shashwat group, a grassroots initiative that was developed in response to the displacement of Koli Mahadeo, Thakarsand Katkaris tribal peoples by construction of the Dimbhe dam.
