IC4HD Public Lecture - Which Kind of State Can Deliver Which Kind of Development?IC4HD, a joint initiative of the Government of India and UNDP, organized its first public lecture on 17 February 2014 at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The lecture titled ‘Which kind of state can deliver which kind of development?’ was delivered by Prof. Boaventura de Sousa Santos, University of Coimbra, Portugal. The lecture was chaired by Prof. Chetan Singh, Director, Indian Institute of Advanced Study, and the discussants included Prof. Shail Mayaram, Centre for the Study of Developing Societies and Prof. Gopal Guru, Jawaharlal Nehru University.
Lecture - Capabilities and Human Development: The Critical Role of Social Institutions and Social CompetenciesThe inaugural UNDP India Lecture Series was delivered by Prof. Frances Stewart, Professor of Development Economics (emeritus), University of Oxford and Director of Centre for Research on Inequality, Human Security and Ethnicity. In her presentation focused on Capabilities and Human Development: The Critical Role of Social Institutions and Social Competencies, Prof. Stewart argued that social institutions and norms should be an integral part of strategies designed at improving human development outcomes.
First-ever India Human Development Awards AnnouncedThe first-ever Manav Vikas: India Human Development Awards 2012 were announced in New Delhi on March 14, 2012. The Awards which commemorate India’s leadership in embracing the human development approach were presented by a distinguished panel of guests including UNDP Administrator Helen Clark; Member of the Planning Commission, Syeda Hameed; Minister of Rural Development, Drinking Water and Sanitation, Jairam Ramesh; M.S. Swaminathan, Member of Rajya Sabha and Founder, MSSRF; and Ajay Chhibber, UN Assistant Secretary General, UNDP Assistant Administrator and Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific.
