From Rags to Riches: Hiware Bazaar in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra
This is the story of Hiware Bazaar, a village in Ahmednagar in Maharashtra. From a village with 90 percent poverty and per capita income of only INR 842 in 1989, the village today boasts of a per capita income of INR 28,000. In addition, steps taken to recharge groundwater through rainwater and artificial re-harvesting not only brought up the groundwater from 50 feet to 5-10 feet, but also made it a water surplus area. The village was also recognized with a National Water Award from the Ministry of Water Resources for its commendable work in groundwater recharging.

Projects and Initiatives
In partnership with the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Government of India, the project aims to strengthen the capacities of elected representatives and officials, institutions and processes at various levels to improve service delivery through training, networking and knowledge sharing.
