The loss of biodiversity and the changing climate are among the most prominent issues on the international agenda. These are not only environmental concerns; the issues are linked to the nature of economic development, poverty reduction, natural disasters, and peace and security. The health of the world’s biodiversity and climate is fundamental to all aspects of human well‐being.

This was the key message emerging from a three-day summit in Kohima, the capital of Nagaland in the North East of India. The summit brought together governments from India’s Himalayan states to discuss how a host of environmental and ecological pressures are threatening the existence of the ecosystem on which an estimated 700 million people in the region depend on. Energy Efficiency and Access to Energy One Key Priority of the UNFeb 10, 2015Lise Grande, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative highlights how interventions made as part of UNDP’s partnership with the Ministry of Steel since 2004 have reduced fuel consumption by 20-25 percent and reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 25 percent. Sharing Electoral Excellence with India's NeighboursNov 18, 2014In October 2014, the west Indian state of Maharashtra held elections to the state assembly, where an estimated 52 million voted for over 4000 candidates. Ministry of Rural Development and UNDP Sign Letter of Collaboration In Support Of Rural Employment and Livelihood ProgrammesOct 12, 2012Under this agreement UNDP and the Ministry of Rural Development of Rural Development will collaborate to accelerate development efforts in 10 left-wing extremism affected districts with large tribal populations. The two entities will also intensify their on-going engagement on India’s flagship rural employment guarantee prrogramme that has provided jobs to over 54 million people.
