Disha: Creating Employment and Entrepreneurship Opportunities for Women in India
A partnership between the India Development Foundation, UNDP and Xyntéo, supported by IKEA Foundation seeks to positively impact the lives of one million women in India through training, entrepreneurial skill development and employment, as well as to develop a new model of public-private collaboration that can be adapted and replicated across India.
India Skills Report 2017
India Skills Report 2017 presents a quantitative and qualitative analysis of demand and supply in the labour market. The report takes stock of the talent landscape by analysing the employability of youth and the needs and expectations of employers. Currently in its fourth edition, it also captures various initiatives taken by the government and its impact on economic growth. The report is a joint initiative by Confederation of Indian Industry, PeopleStrong, Wheebox, UNDP and AICTE.

Disha in Action: Swasthi, Karnataka
For many women, the challenges of managing the household make self-employment a natural alternative. To encourage more women to view entrepreneurship as a feasible option and to motivate them to launch their own enterprises someday, a targeted entrepreneurship development programme has been established with Swasthi.
Disha in Action: JSL, Haryana
Young women in Haryana have enrolled in skills training at a stainless steel plant in Rohad district. The programme is a one-of-its kind public-private partnership initiative led by JSL that aims to equip young women with the skills and knowledge for enhancing their employability and helping them secure jobs in the steel industry.
Disha in Action: IKEA Retail, Telangana
IKEA Retail plans to hire 50% women in their workforce when it opens in Telangana. IKEA is also working with implementing partners to design a training curriculum to help identify key skills women need to take on critical roles in retail. Following training at IKEA, participating women will leave with skill certificates.
Disha in Action: CIPET, NCR
A group of young women in Murthal, Haryana enrolled in and successfully completed a short vocational training course in plastic engineering and technology, enabling them to find employment on factory floors in industrial hubs around the region. The three-month training course on plastic engineering is facilitated by Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology (CIPET).
Disha in Action: Maharashtra Skill Sakhis
Skill Sakhis perform the vital function of going door-to-door to disseminate information and awareness about current vocation and training opportunities available in the government and the private sector. Within less than a year of implementation with Pratham, nearly 10,000 young women and girls have been reached through this effort in Maharashtra.
Disha in Action: SEWA Bharat, NCR
A number of Career Guidance and Counselling Centres (CGCCs) have been set up in partnership with SEWA Bharat to provide women candidates guidance, counselling and access to information on trainings for skills, jobs, and even opportunities for self-employment. These centres often end up address the needs and aspirations of young, job-seeking women.
