UNV Global Presentation Competition "Youth Change the World - Volunteering for the SDGs"

UNV India has been hosting the Indian iteration of the Global Presentation Competition “Youth Change the World – Volunteering for the SDGs” in cooperation with multiple UNV offices including Ghana, Fiji, Uganda and more in the world.

World leaders gathered on 25 September 2015, at the United Nations in New York to adopt the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The 2030 Agenda comprises 17 new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which will guide policy and funding for the next 15 years, beginning with a historic pledge to end poverty. Everywhere. Permanently.

What we learned from previous global agreements is that they are only successful if a big number of people know and care about them. Right now, the awareness on SDGs in India is still very low. And this is where you come in.

UNV India recognizes the transformative potential of the SDGs and especially the importance of youth, volunteering, and technology to play a crucial role in the implementation of this world changing agenda.

This is why we were looking for creative ideas to raise the awareness on SDGs all over India that make use of the potential of volunteering and technology.

The overall response to this was amazing! We received more than twenty very well made video submissions from places as far as rural Kerala and had a hard time choosing our three winners. The jury, comprising of members from UNV, UNDP and our partner MASH Project, paid special attention to how feasible the ideas are, how creative our candidates have been and how well they accommodated for the role of volunteers and technology in spreading awareness through all parts of society and throughout the whole country.

A big heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated and congratulations to our three winners!
