• Rolling out Energy Conservation Building Codes

    Against the backdrop of fast-growing commercial building stock, electricity consumption in commercial buildings is expected to reach unprecedented levels by 2030, resulting in a significant increase in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from this sector. To mainstream energy efficiency in commercial buildings, the Government of India, through Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), has launched the Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC). This document outlines ECBC minimum energy efficiency requirements for commercial building systems.

    This publication documents the efforts undertaken by the Ministry of Steel, Government of India, and the United Nations Development Programme to fast-track the implementation of energy efficiency measures in the secondary steel sector in India. The upscaling steel project managed to increase the number of energy-efficient small-scale steel units from 34 to 300 in 30 months. This document also captures how innovations in the execution of a programme can lead to desired results.
